# Climb Out

### SETTING CLIMB THRUST

Select proper EPR setting from climb chart using altitude and TAT. Set throttles to EPR setting when a stabilized climb is established. Check indicated EPR against Climb Thrust Setting Chart during climb.

### FLAP RETRACTION/MANEUVERING SPEEDS

<table><thead><tr><th width="215">GROSS WEIGHT LB</th><th width="112">FLAPS 15</th><th width="103">FLAPS 5</th><th width="106">FLAPS 2</th><th width="105">FLAPS 0</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>154500 &#x26; BELOW</td><td>150</td><td>160</td><td>190</td><td>200</td></tr><tr><td>154501 TO 176000</td><td>160</td><td>170</td><td>200</td><td>210</td></tr><tr><td>176001 TO 191000</td><td>170</td><td>180</td><td>210</td><td>220</td></tr><tr><td>191001 &#x26; ABOVE</td><td>180</td><td>190</td><td>225</td><td>235</td></tr></tbody></table>

### ANTI-ICING

Use engine anti-ice in flight when icing conditions are anticipated or encountered. Icing exist in flight when temperature is between +10C TAT and -40C SAT and visible moisture is present. Turn continuous ignition ON before activating the engine or wing anti-ice systems. Turn on engine anti-ice switches one at a time. Allow each engine to stabilize before turning on the next switch. Turn on wing anti-ice when required. Wing anti-ice should be used for anti-icing rather than de-icing. Do not turn on wing anti-ice until reaching 800 feet above the fild.

Turn wing and engine anti-ice off when TAT is above +10C.

### ALTIMETER SETTING

Set both pilots' altimeter, the cabin altimeter, and cabin baro window as follows:

#### UNITED STATES, CANADA, PUERTO RICO, THE VIRGIN ISLANDS, AND GUAM

Change from local altimeter setting (QNH) to standard, 29.92 in.Hg., when climbing through 17.500 feet MSL.

#### MEXICO

Change from local altimeter setting (QNH) to standard (QNE) when climbing through 18.500 feet MSL.

#### ALL OTHER LOCATIONS

Change from local altimeter setting (QNH) to standard, 1013 hectopascals/millibars, upon leaving the transition altitude.

### STROBE LIGHTS

Strobe lights may be turned off during daylight hours when above FL180.

### AIR CONDITION

As soon as flight conditions permit after takeoff, start closing pack cooling doors to conform with the following schedule in climb or cruise:

| At or below 10.000 feet | 110C                   |
| ----------------------- | ---------------------- |
| 10.000 to 15.000 feet   | 110C decreasing to 85C |
| 15.000 to 30.000        | 85C decreasing to 45C  |
| Above 30.000 feet       | 45C maximum            |

{% hint style="info" %}
**Cooling Door Operation**

10.000 ft = 1/2 closed

18.000 ft = 3/4 closed

CRUISE = fully closed
{% endhint %}

### CLIMB SPEEDS

Climb to initial flight plan altitude maintaining speed schedule.
