# Holdings

Holdings can be defined manually or selected as part of a database procedure (e.g. an approach course reversal).

## Programming holdings in the MCDU

### Accessing the holding page

Two ways to reach **HOLDING PATTERN 1/1**:

* **NAV** → **NAV INDEX 1/2** → **HOLD** (LSK 5R)
* **NAV INDEX 2/2** → **PATTERNS** (LSK 3L) → **HOLD** (LSK 1L)

The scratchpad shows `*HOLD*`. Select the left LSK next to the holding fix on **ACTIVE FLT PLAN**.

### Editable parameters

* **HOLD FIX** (LSK 1L) — holding waypoint name
* **SPEED** (LSK 1R) — pilot-entered speed (large cyan) or default 210 KIAS
* **INBD CRS/DIR** (LSK 3L) — inbound course and turn direction (**L** / **R**)
* **LEG TIME / LEG DIST** (LSK 2R/3R) — default 1.0 min below 14 000 ft, 1.5 min at or above; editing one value recalculates the other from groundspeed

### Activation

Select **INSERT/APPLY** (LSK 6R). The hold is placed in a **MOD FLT PLAN**; confirm with **ACTIVATE** (LSK 6R).

## Holding operations and exiting

* **Entry** — At the fix, the flight plan **FROM** waypoint shows **HOLDING**.
* **Exit** — One minute before the fix, **EXIT** (LSK 6L) appears. Press **EXIT** in the hold to return to the fix, sequence it, and resume the plan (**EXITING HOLD**). **RESUME HOLD** reverses a premature exit.
