Preflight Setup (Quick Guide)

Step-by-step MCDU preflight from RADIO through a complete route, departure and arrival procedures, performance initialization, and takeoff speeds.

Example route: EGLC/27 N0317F210 ODUK1A ODUKU M84 CLN P44 RATLO M197 REDFA REDF1A EHAM/18R (SimBrief / datalink import).

Complete NAV IDENT once before using RTE, FPL, or PERF (verify the AIRAC cycle; update via Navdata Updater if needed). Store your SimBrief username before route import. Keep the EFB manifest open for ZFW, fuel, TO CG, and V-speeds.

On PERF INIT 3/3, you must press CONFIRM INIT> before the FMS calculates the vertical profile (TOC/TOD) and VNAV data.

Step 1

Enter the airport ground/delivery frequency (or the first frequency you will contact) on RADIO.
Enter the follow-up frequency in standby.
Press RTE.

Step 2

Open NAV IDENT and verify the loaded navdata cycle against the current date.
If navdata is out of date, follow the Navdata Updater process (EFB → Settings → Navdata, or the desktop fallback).

Step 3

If your SimBrief username or userid is stored, import the latest route from ACT RTE.
Use DLK FPL (LSK 3L) or SEND (LSK 4L) after origin, destination, and FLIGHT ID match your OFP.
See SimBrief Import.

Step 4

Verify the imported waypoints on the datalink flight-plan list.
ACTIVATE (or APPLY ACTIVE) to load the route into the active plan.

Step 5

On ACT RTE, select DEPARTURE> (LSK 6R) to open departure procedures.

Step 6

Open runway selection for the departure airport.

Step 7

Select the planned departure runway.

Step 8

Select the planned SID.

Step 9

Confirm the selected departure procedure.

Step 10

INSERT/APPLY the departure procedure into the MOD flight plan.

Step 11

Review the MOD ACTIVE FPL.
ACTIVATE (LSK 6R) to make the departure procedure active.

Step 12

Return to ACT RTE and select ARRIVAL> (LSK 6R).

Step 13

Open runway selection for the arrival airport.

Step 14

Select the planned arrival runway.

Step 15

Select the planned approach procedure.

Step 16

If you do not use an approach transition, skip directly to STAR selection.

Step 18

Select the planned STAR.

Step 19

Confirm the selected arrival procedure.

Step 20

INSERT/APPLY the arrival procedure into the MOD flight plan.

Step 21

Review the MOD ACTIVE FPL.
ACTIVATE (LSK 6R).

Step 23

Press FPL and scan the active flight plan for discontinuities (>>DISCONTINUITY<<).

Step 24

Use NEXT to walk through all flight-plan pages and check legs and constraints.

Step 26

If a discontinuity remains (example on page 3/7), type the missing waypoint in the scratchpad (e.g. PEVOS).
Press the left LSK next to the discontinuity (dashed line) to insert the waypoint.

Step 28

Press DEL to put *DELETE* in the scratchpad.
Delete the discontinuity dashes on the flight-plan page.

Step 29

Review the MOD flight plan.
ACTIVATE (LSK 6R).

Step 30

Press PERF and select PERF INIT (LSK 1L).

Step 31

On PERF INIT 1/3, select SEND REQST to pull performance data from your SimBrief OFP.

Step 32

Press NEXT to PERF INIT 2/3.

Step 34

Enter TO CG from the EFB manifest (e.g. type 23.0 on the keypad).
Transfer the scratchpad value with the TO CG line-select key (LSK 5L).

Step 35

Press NEXT to PERF INIT 3/3.

Step 36

Press CONFIRM INIT> (LSK 6R, inverse white) to confirm performance initialization.
Without this step the vertical profile is not calculated — see PERF.

Step 37

Select PERF DATA> (LSK 6R) to review the performance summary.

Step 38

Select TAKEOFF> from the performance workflow prompts.

Step 39

Enter V1, VR, V2, and VFS from the EFB manifest / loadsheet.

Step 40

Preflight MCDU setup complete — you are ready for departure.
